New Year, Same Ole Me | Danny's Universe

Happy New Year!  The year that was once only a distant number in science fiction movies, has finally arrived.  2020 is here.

Many of us have certain things that we

wish we had accomplished in the old year, but for one reason or another, we just didn't get around to it.

There is good (and bad) news.   The last decade is a thing of the past, but now we all have a fresh start!

While thinking about this, a few things came to mind.

Change
Do we really want to change?  Are there things about ourselves that we want to change?

Most of us have a list of things about ourselves that we wish we could change.

Note: Some people's list should be longer, and some lists could be a little shorter! lol

However upon further reflection, the things we wish we could change are the exact same things we've wanted to change for most of our adult lives.

I don't mean things like the numbers on the scale, or the amount of $$ in our bank accounts.  Those are just symptoms of our behaviors.

I'm speaking of much deeper things.  Btw, I will not be making any personal confessions here! lol

I have previously made the following statement, Aside from a supernatural conversion, or a brain injury, I do not really believe any of us change all that much.

As far as I am concerned, we at most, make a few tweaks to our behavior, but that's about it.

A Life Changing Idea
Sometimes, we need to concentrate on making BIG changes.  Most of the time though, we will get more done by making small, consistent changes over time.

We don't have to do it all at once.  In fact, when most people try to make drastic changes, they often fail.

The majority of us give up too fast, and fall off of the proverbial wagon of change.

A Tip That Has Helped Me
Something that has helped me over the years is finding a reason to make a change.

This reason is different for all of us.

Over my lifetime the reason to change certain behaviors, situations, and activities has changed.

There was a time I wanted to impress people.  Other times I wanted to "get a certain girl" or even take revenge.  Time changes us all.

I'm in a different season now.

Outside Forces At Work
Every once in a while, the reason to change is exacted upon us.  For instance, a doctor may tell you to quit smoking, lose weight, etc. or you will be dead in less than a year.

Death can be quite a motivator!

However, it will only motivate you if value your life.

Mind Games
What if though, the doctor said to do those things, or your grandchild will think you are a loser for not being able to control your appetites?

That may motivate a person in a different way.

Conclusion
The important thing is to figure out what you want to accomplish, making sure your reasons agree with your values, and go for it.

Take action!

I wish you much success, and every happiness possible in the new year.

As always,
Love one another
